Artist's Statement

I have lots of things to say about lots of things and find that humor is the most effective way for me to do that.

With no formal artistic training, I moved from Georgia to New Orleans, LA in 1971 where I began my career as an artist. I began painting my Lamp Post People caricatures in 2000 while sitting under one of the New Orleans lamp posts that are prominent throughout the French Quarter.

I was looking for something easy, fun and unique to do through which I could express my particular sense of humor. The lamp post and its light offered all of that potential and so the seed was sown.

Since those humble beginnings, the lamp posts continue to evolve.

Because of Katrina I moved back to Georgia in March 2006 but I will continue painting the lamp post characters of New Orleans. No doubt, they will take on new characteristics as time goes on. They may even turn into something totally different.
